Paint Creek - Autumn Visit

Updated: Jan 23, 2020

Paint Creek can be a great place to have an afternoon picnic, an adventurous hike or simply a drive-through at this unbelievably beautiful park! It's only 30 minutes away from the Bluffs and the ride there is full of stunning views at every turn. Closer to the park, you'll start seeing bits and pieces of the creek and soon after you'll find yourself on the most magical road ever! We advise you to look in every direction as small caves and waterfalls hide everywhere. There are plenty of parking spots along the creek as well as bathroom stops. But if you do decide to stop and explore on foot, do be careful! The rocks near the water are very slippery! Just over 15 years ago muddy water rushed down from Viking Mountain and created calamity at the Paint Creek Campground. 2 miles of the 5-mile road was damaged and nearly a mile of it was completely washed away. It was re-opened in July 2006 -- a month shy of five years after the flood -- following $5 million worth of work. This popular southern Greene County site is perhaps better than ever. An absolute must visit if you're in the area.
